The Morris' is an intimate dining experience without feeling cramped and allowing for easy movement. The washroom is unique, but a bit of a gimmick. While most dishes offer fair value, the small bites section (dubbed "nibbles") falls short, with portions that feel precious for their price point. Chicken Nuggets: The menu's inclusion of chicken nuggets amused me, and I just had to try them. The nuggets deliver an unexpected sophistication. The coating wasn't crispy, but deliciously light and airy. The meat was made of juicy chicken thigh instead of a homogeneous meat mixture. Unfortunately, I found the caviar ranch too rich, and added an unwanted fishiness. I would have been more satisfied without the ranch. Mushroom Profiteroles: The profiterole itself was not that great, far too dense for my liking. The mushroom filling was great though! Extremely robust and meaty, punctuated by assertive black pepper that added a welcome warmth to each bite. Charcuterie: The highlight of the night for me. Based off the portion sizes of our previous dishes, I expected this to be a small sampling of each item. Imagine my surprise when we were served a gargantuan platter of meats! The selection demonstrated both breadth and depth: pâté offered rich complexity, salamis delivered varying degrees of spice, and mortadella was silky-smooth. Each component spoke to a different flavor profile and texture. Charred Broccoli and Squid: This vegetable dish was rejuvenating after the heaps of meat and fat. The dish's bright acidity acted as a palate cleanser and cut through the richness of the preceeding plates. This acidic backbone was reinforced by a satisfying heat. Fries: Pretty mediocre fries to be honest. The aioli was addictively good. Bavette Steak: A pretty disappointing steak. I prefer a steak with a well-developed crust, and this one was flaccid. The red wine sauce was fine, but nothing to write home about. Grilled Pork: I found this a bit lacking. It was also super fatty, and the meat had some toughness I did not appreciate. Smoked Duck: This was probably the dish I was most looking forward to, and my expectations were not met. The duck was competently smoked and cooked to appropriate doneness, but lacked the succulence I expected. However, the accompaniments were exceptional. I loved all the vegetables, and I especially loved the honey-espresso jus! Buckwheat Donuts: Magnificent. The use of buckwheat flour elevates these pastries, imparting a subtle nuttiness and robust texture. The donuts are well-spiced, and pair beautifully with the provided dip. An absolutely wonderful dessert.

The Morris is an upscale restaurant in the Mission that got quite busy on Saturday night. Only outdoor reservations were available but the patio is covered and heated. Their charcuterie menu can be ordered individually for $15 dollars, 5 items for $50, or all options for $75. Me and my friend ordered two individual portions of Mortadella and Duck Prosciutto along with their sourdough bread and butter. The sourdough was perfect - spongy on the inside and a thin dense caramelized rustic crust. The mortadella was a bit heavy on salt but once I sampled it with some pickled vegetables, it cancelled out the salt and left the flavor of the meat and pimento. The duck prosciutto took longer to hit the taste buds. Fat and salt followed by a subtle duck flavor. I also ordered a Chartreuse Slush, which had a nice sublime citrus and floral flavor. As it melted, a puddle formed around the glass. For our entrees, we ordered and shared the Heirloom Tomato Salad with pickled Chanterelles along with the Little Gem Salad. The tomatoes were plump and tangy. It had an interesting caprese-like taste minus the mozzarella. It was definitely a good amount of food. As we were wrapping up the meal, we ordered the Buckwheat Donuts and I got myself a cappuccino to keep myself up at the Rival Consoles show at Gray Area. I immediately picked up hints of cumin and cinnamon in the donuts, an interesting combination to say the least. I really enjoyed the vibe of the relaxed outdoor patio. I would definitely come back to try more dishes including the duck.

The drinks here were pretty good. Particularly liked the Chartreuse Slushy! Overall the food was good, but for most of it, it felt like there was just something missing that would really push it over to amazing. And boy is this place on the pricey side for what you're getting! Great place maybe for a work dinner. And parking was surprisingly easy to find. Easy, free street parking right around the corner!

We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a very pleasant meal. We started off with the pate de campagne which was a mixture of meats blended together wrapped in bacon. Very savory but not overly salted, it was easy to cut off a piece. They provide some parmesan crisps on the side to pair with it, but the ingredient that really brought it all together was the dijon mustard that came with it. The mustard really made the flavors of the pate pop. We also had some Rize Up sourdough bread with cultured butter which was insanely good. The bread was very dense yet fluffy and the butter was so creamy and delicious. We then had some parmesan brussel sprouts that were brought out, which were nicely crispy and a good blend of savory and sweet with the balsamic vinaigrette glaze that the veggies were cooked in. The star of the meal was the half smoked duck which came with an assortment of veggies. The duck was tender and had a good flavor to it and while the dish itself isn't too big, it fills you up quickly due to the high fat content of the meat. We paired our meal with a bottle of the Clos Somi Syrah Blend which had just a hint of sweetness and paired especially well with the duck. We then finished our meal with the buckwheat donuts which comes with a whiskey liqueor custard dipping sauce which was delicious. The staff was great throughout the meal - very attentive and quick to clean our table, pour our waters/wine, and bring out fresh cutlery.

My SO took me out to a date night in the city for my birthday and this gets a solid 4/5 from me. We were greeted by the kitchen preparing a duck, which we knew they were famous for. Unfortunately we did have to wait ~20 minutes with a reservation. We ordered relatively light - the brussel sprouts with parmesan, charred broccoli with squid, and the half duck. The brussel sprouts could have been slightly crunchier, but the charred broccoli was delicious and tangy. The half duck made the entire meal - I will say you HAVE to order this if you are here.

Finally, a place who knows how to salt food. The seasoning was on point in every dish. The food was so fresh, comforting & unique. How can they do all that and have amazing service? Well they do. Portions here are exactly right but limited entree items. The uniform service & open kitchen gave this place a vibe of being a well established institution. I did however, wish we ordered a protein otherwise this may have been a perfect meal. Will absolutely try again and recommend! 4.8/5 FOOD 4.5/5 SERVICE 5/5 AMBIANCE

From beginning to end...whoa! I came in near the end of night after a lovely event at KQED. The rotisserie caught my eye and the biggest birds I have yet to see greeted me with the most inviting smell. The staff were most acomidating and they shared all the menu detals as well as the thought behind each. It is clear that they are all well versed not only in the menu, but just in the best bits of hospitality. You could tell that they have been doing this for a while, the expertise and attention to detail were evident. Thanks to their advice I ordered: -The charred broccoli & squid -buckwheat donuts w. anglaise If you read no further, know this: ORDER THE DONUTS! My goodness. What a dream! I think that was my favorite bit of the whole visit. I did make a note to come back for the famous duck. Sidenote: the restroom is a trip. Visit that before you go.

It had been a while since we got together, so decided to indulge and order whatever we wanted. I had heard great things about the duck, so that was my pick. It was tender and delicious. And that au jus was so flavorful. The charcuterie was plentiful and we had a good amount of variety. The only thing I didn't really care for was the steak since it was covered in bearnaise. But the temp on it was nice. Drinks wise, I'd skip the cocktails since they were just okay. We were happy with our two bottles of wine tho. We really weren't familiar with the wine list offerings so they said they'd send over the sommelier. For some reason, he wasn't showing up, so the server sent over three of their Chicken nuggets . caviar ranch. That ranch was delish! The sommelier eventually showed up and we made our selections. Fun spot to have a nice somewhat elaborate meal. Their portions are rather big, so better if you go in a bigger group. Otherwise, your bill will add up quickly. REVIEW #3423
